Tutoring services

I offer tutoring services online or around USF Tampa campus in essay writing and philosophy:

  • Philosophy: $40/hour

    • This can take the form of a Q&A session regarding a philosophical work.

    • This can take the form of a guided reading for a dense philosophical work to maximize reading comprehension and understanding. I can give guidance on how to use outlines to maximize comprehension of philosophical texts. You will receive an outline of the content being studied at the end of the session.

    • This can also take the form of a review of the content of a philosophy class.

      • This final option will likely span several sessions

  • Writing: $40/hour

    • I offer live editing suggestions (essay analysis - see below) for how to improve your essay (and how to improve your essay writing overall) for college-level research essays. I can provide these suggestion in-person or through Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

    • Proof-reading is not included in the live session and is a service charged separately - see below.

Asynchronous essay services

Asynchronous essay analysis and proof-reading services for research essays. This is a good option for shorter papers or if you are looking for specific feedback for an essay rather than being tutored to write better overall. The rates for these services are as follows:

  • Editing suggestions (essay analysis - see below)

    • 1-20 pages*: $15 + $1 per page

    • 21 pages* or more: $2 per page

  • Proof-reading (suggestions for grammar corrections, suggestions for concision & flow of words, etc.):

    • 1-20 pages*: $15 + $0.75 per page

    • 21 pages* or more: $2 per page

  • BOTH proof-reading and editing suggestions:

    • 1-20 pages*: $25 + $1.50 per page

    • 21 pages* or more: $3 per page

What feedback do I provide when making editing suggestions? My essay analysis includes:

  1. Assessing the validity of arguments presented (do they make logical sense?)

  2. Assessing the soundness of arguments presented (do the arguments follow from and fully appreciate the source material?)

  3. Providing feedback for use of sources (are sources cited when needed? Is there an empirical claim you make that does not utilize any source or collected data?)

  4. Analyzing organization of ideas in the essay (are all the ideas where it makes sense for them to be?)

  5. Analyzing how arguments support the core thesis (are your arguments doing the work you want them to?)

  6. Evaluating the core thesis itself (Does your essay have a thesis? Is this thesis clearly stated and intelligible?)

  7. Anything else your or your professor is looking for.

I offer feedback and suggestions for changing the essay to make the final product as strong as possible.
